Precision for medical technology systems – measure safely, act safely

Medical technology is subject to the highest regulatory requirements. Standards such as ISO 13485, the Medical Devices Implementation Act (MPDG), and the EU MDR require manufacturers to provide complete documentation, traceability, and technical safety—from the first prototype to the approved series product. As an experienced sensor technology partner, we develop and manufacture high-resolution force and torque sensors specifically for integration into medical technology systems.

Whether in robot-assisted surgery, implant testing, or automated test systems – customized measurement solutions for safety and collision detection.

Miniaturized designs

In medical technology, every millimeter counts. Our miniaturized force and torque sensors precisely measure even the slightest forces – directly at the point of action. This allows surgical instruments and catheters to be equipped with high-resolution sensor technology without increasing the component volume. Thanks to optimized geometries and biocompatible materials such as titanium, we enable integration even in extremely confined installation spaces. The result: maximum functionality with minimum invasiveness – validatable according to ISO 13485 and autoclavable for clinical use.

Thermal and mechanical stability

Our sensors retain their precision even after hundreds of sterilization cycles. Each measuring cell is designed for repeated autoclave processes at up to +134 °C and withstands mechanical stresses such as vibration, pressure surges, and fluctuating humidity levels. We ensure stability right from the development stage: In our own DAkkS-accredited calibration laboratory, we test and calibrate under real-world temperature conditions – including thermal cycle tests. This guarantees that each measuring cell operates precisely within the specified tolerances, even after repeated sterilization.

Certifiable for medical devices

We develop and manufacture sensors according to the same principles that lead our customers to ISO 13485 certification. As we have been involved in this process for many years, we actively support you in ensuring that your documentation and verification comply with the relevant standards. From risk analysis and validation to audit preparation, we work cooperatively with your quality assurance representatives to efficiently meet all regulatory requirements. ME sensors are used worldwide in surgical robots, including in systems for micro-precise procedures on the human eye, where measurement accuracy is crucial to the success of the procedure.

Documentation requirements

Our sensor technology is delivered with complete documentation, including calibration protocols, test reports, and risk assessments. For CE certification, we provide technical documentation that can be directly integrated into your quality management system.

We pay particular attention to FMEA: each measuring cell is accompanied by a detailed failure mode and effects analysis, which systematically evaluates potential weak points in design, signal processing, and installation. This allows sources of risk to be identified and compensated for at an early stage – for example, through adapted housing geometries, redundant measuring levels, or signal filtering. This in-depth FMEA documentation creates a solid basis for audits and validations and is particularly valuable for development managers who need to demonstrate the highest level of process reliability.

We develop your sensor measurement solution together

From the initial idea to series approval, we accompany your development – technically sound, validatable, and in personal exchange with your engineers. Each measurement solution is created in close collaboration between design, simulation, and real-world testing. Sensors, electronics, and housings form a single unit, optimized for your application. This results in reproducible quality from a quantity of 1, with a stable FMEA basis and certified manufacturing “Made in Germany.”

Manufacturing expertise for medical technology measurement solutions:

from prototype to series production

ME-Measuring Systems combines industrial series production with individual development work. Thousands of standard products are available immediately from stock – from strain gauges to compact force and torque transducers.

At the same time, we develop and manufacture prototypes from a quantity of 1, which are produced on the same production line as later series – with identical FMEA, documented process validation and traceable calibration in our own DAkkS laboratory.

This way you get medical technology sensors that are both quickly available and precisely adaptable to your application – from minimally invasive instruments to complex surgical robots.
Made in Germany – validated, biocompatible and ready for certification according to ISO 13485.

Electronics integrated directly into the installation space – maximum functionality in minimum space

Our sensors make full use of the available installation space: the measuring element and electronics form a single unit. This allows signal processing, amplification, and filtering to take place within the sensor housing itself—without requiring additional space in the system.

This integration is only possible thanks to our special expertise in analog electronics and miniature design. It ensures noise-stable signals at the highest sampling rates and reduces interference before the measurement signal leaves the system.

The result: a complete, ready-to-install measurement solution that integrates seamlessly into your component – ideal for compact medical technology applications where precision and space savings are equally important.

The flattest 6D sensor technology on the market – lightweight, rigid and highly precise.

Our 6-axis force and torque sensors set standards in miniaturized design: extremely flat, yet mechanically strong and rigid.

The unique geometry, developed from a combination of FEM simulation, material analysis, and real-world validation, enables full 6D measurement in a minimum of space—without compromising linearity, cross-sensitivity, or load reserve.

Manufactured from titanium or stainless steel and optimized for integration into compact flange and instrument structures, this sensor technology offers maximum precision with minimum installation space – ideal for applications in medical technology, robotics, and micromechanics.

Technical Highlights – Precision begins in the signal

Our sensors deliver noise-stable signals even with extremely small forces and moments – thanks to optimally tuned signal paths and electronics that we develop entirely in-house. We combine the best of both worlds: digital interfaces such as CANopen or EtherCAT for system integration – and high-precision analog electronics for applications where every micronewton counts. This expertise in analog signal processing has become rare, but is crucial when high sampling rates with a low signal-to-noise ratio are required. The result is measurement solutions that deliver reproducible data even under the most demanding conditions – calibrated, traceable, and documented in our own DAkkS-accredited calibration laboratory.
